Two, which has taken over former
SF mainstay, Hawthorne Lane, has reinvented the
space with dark woods and eclectic antler chandeliers. The food and
price range are more approachable; casual, yet still gourmet. Two,
like so many new ‘hotspots’, is currently too noisy and
overcrowded for a peaceful meal, even on a weeknight. Yet the
upscale ‘barlike’ menu with varied, creative options
hits just the right notes, as does the house-infused spirits. Sharing
appetizers, pizzas and drinks makes for an ideal after work stop,
with the refreshing simplicity of the same menu being served all
day long. The duck confit pizza ($13) with caramelized onions,
Crescenza cheese and fried sage, is inventive comfort food at its
best, and the pastas (ideally available in two sizes), salads, sandwiches
and meat dishes follow suit. |
