“We need to rediscover the link between knowledge and love, a penetrating vision of wisdom by which one knows in a way more deeply than the mind alone can grasp. Knowledge is to deepen our participation in the whole, not to control it. When we are unconscious of our connectedness to the world of things, we cannot be intelligently related to them. We know objects as data not as mirrors of reflection.”
— The Unbearable Wholeness of Being by Ilia Delio
Happy new year, my friends!
After the pristine blue (lake) and snowy mountains of Tahoe for Christmas with family, I spent a restful New Year’s weekend in Sausalito with a deck gazing out at the Bay. The breathtaking full moon lit up the water with a heavenly glow (pictured below), an inspiring way to begin what I hope will be a fresh year of change and impact for all of us.
In my weekly Time Out column, I cover the best of crab season at restaurants now. At Liquor.com, I write about my national top 11 cocktails/bars now, holiday edition. In the print issues of Oakland and Alameda Magazines, I dig into Oregon’s Willamette Valley beyond merely wineries.
Top Tastes — Where to Eat Dungeness Crab Now: It’s crab season in the Bay Area and here are 5 creative dishes showcasing Dungeness now.
Imbiber — 11 Top Cocktails Around the US, Holiday Edition: Menus/drinks worth tasting now now from Charleston to Las Vegas.
Wandering Traveler — Top 10 PDX Bars: My top Portland bars plus interviews with pioneering distiller Christian Krogstadt of House Spirits and bar manager Camille Cavan of Quaintrelle.
As your personal concierge who tells it like a good friend would, I also create personalized itineraries: trips, meals, explorations (under “Services“).
